Belmont Craftsmen - Degraded Art
Ever experience difficulty when transferring your logo from stationary, to t-shirts, vehicle advertising or signage? The following offers a brief incite into both the cause and solution. The most common error being the overuse of the jpg file extension.
JPG or JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) has become the most common format for storing and transmitting photographic images on the web. Unfortunately, the most common format is not suited to applications where the exact reproduction of data is required. Due to it’s use of “lossy compression” more and more of the image’s quality will be lost each time the item is edited or saved.
As was the case with the Belmont Craftsment logo (shown right). Over time compression had rendered this image pixilated and blurry. Still suitable for small reproduction on business cards and stationary but far too degraded for any type of large format advertising.
Fortunately Edwardson Media does not subscribe to the principalis of GIGO - “garbage in / garbage out”. We take the time and care to clean up all degraded artwork, even before presentation, and at no additional cost to the client.
